Traditionally, the standard for newborn photography has been the first two weeks. The logic is simple: babies are sleepier, easier to pose, and at their absolute tiniest. There is something undeniable about the magic of a "Fresh 48" or a very early session, especially given how quickly they change in those first few months.
However, those first fourteen days can also be a blur of recovery and exhaustion. Expecting a family, especially a mother who has just given birth, to be "camera-ready" so soon can feel like an immense pressure. It’s a massive transition, and if there are older siblings involved, they are also navigating a brand-new world.
I believe the best photos happen when a family feels grounded and comfortable. I would much rather wait until you have found your rhythm in this new chapter. This is why I have moved away from the traditional newborn session model to specialize in Welcoming Sessions.

What Makes a Welcoming Session Different?

A Relaxed Timeline
Instead of squeezing into a two-week window, these sessions take place once the initial dust has settled. Even at a few weeks old, your baby is still incredibly small and delicate.
Focus on Connection
These sessions are designed to document the reality of your new life together.
It’s about the quiet moments, the shared glances, and the way your family has expanded.
Sibling Harmony
Waiting a few weeks also allows older siblings the necessary time to adjust to such a significant shift in their lives. I’ve found that when we don’t rush the process, the older children feel much more settled; they’ve had a chance to truly begin embracing their new roles within the family. I deeply value capturing those natural, heartfelt interactions that only happen once everyone has had the space to find their footing.
Celebrating the Transition and Welcoming Your Baby
True to the name, these sessions are about the intentional act of
welcoming a new soul into your home life, exactly as it is.
